My name is Ramona Audette and I am the Training Director of California Academy of Dog Behavior.
I have been training dogs professionally since 1993. I have been involved with dogs, one way or another, my whole life.
I believe dogs learn best when they feel good and when training is fun. By motivating your dog positively your dog will quickly learn what you want it to do.
Always looking to improve my training skills and learn more, I attend training and behavior seminars regularly. Some of the seminars and classes I've attended are under the tutelage of Pia Silvani, Trish King, Donna Duford, Sue Sternberg, Patricia McConnell, Terry Ryan, Kathy Sdao, and the guru of operant conditioning, Bob Bailey, to name a few.
I worked nine years at Guide Dogs of America in Sylmar where I was responsible for helping foster families that took adorable 8 week old pups home to raise to be guide dogs. That means I helped with training issues that arose from the dogs, 8wks of age to 2yrs of age. You learn a lot when dealing with over 300 pups a year in that age range. I continue to be involved with GDA and the Puppy Raisers that foster their pups.
I have put Obedience titles (up to a Utility title - UD), Rally titles (up to a Rally Advanced Excellent - RAE) and Agility titles (up to Excellent in both Standard and Jumpers) on several dogs. I still continue to compete with my own dogs in Obedience, Rally, Agility and Nosework.
I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), Southern California Dog Trainers Forum, National Association of Canine Scent Work, LLC®, an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Puppy S.T.A.R. Program Evaluator, and one of the first seven persons to become a Certified K9 Nose Work® Instructor.
I share my home with my husband of 30 years and five Labrador Retrievers.
Some of my interests lie with Labrador Retriever Rescue and Guide Dogs of America. Click to find out more about them or if you are looking for an organization in which to volunteer your time.
