About the Trainer

Ramona Audette at the Bob Bailey Chicken Camp

My name is Ramona Audette and I am the Training Director of California Academy of Dog Behavior.

I have been training dogs professionally since 1993. I have been involved with dogs, one way or another, my whole life.

I believe dogs learn best when they feel good and when training is fun. By motivating your dog positively your dog will quickly learn what you want it to do.

Always looking to improve my training skills and learn more, I attend training and behavior seminars regularly. Some of the seminars and classes I've attended are under the tutelage of Pia Silvani, Trish King, Donna Duford, Sue Sternberg, Patricia McConnell, Terry Ryan, Kathy Sdao, and the guru of operant conditioning, Bob Bailey, to name a few.

I worked nine years at Guide Dogs of America in Sylmar where I was responsible for helping foster families that took adorable 8 week old pups home to raise to be guide dogs. That means I helped with training issues that arose from the dogs, 8wks of age to 2yrs of age. You learn a lot when dealing with over 300 pups a year in that age range. I continue to be involved with GDA and the Puppy Raisers that foster their pups.

Guide Dog Training ClassI have put Obedience titles (up to a Utility title - UD), Rally titles (up to a Rally Advanced Excellent - RAE) and Agility titles (up to Excellent in both Standard and Jumpers) on several dogs. I still continue to compete with my own dogs in Obedience, Rally, Agility and Nosework.

I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), Southern California Dog Trainers Forum, National Association of Canine Scent Work, LLC®, an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Puppy S.T.A.R. Program Evaluator, and one of the first seven persons to become a Certified K9 Nose Work® Instructor.

I share my home with my husband of 30 years and five Labrador Retrievers.

Some of my interests lie with Labrador Retriever Rescue and Guide Dogs of America. Click to find out more about them or if you are looking for an organization in which to volunteer your time.

Training Offered In-Home, Private Lessons, and Group Classes

Types of Classes

In-Home

Like us, all dogs are individuals. The In-Home curriculum is designed for you and your dog's needs.

Most curriculum's will consist of house training, jumping on family members and guests, running out of open doors and gates, coming when called, walking on leash without pulling and more. The curriculum will depend on you and your dog's needs. That's the great thing about the In-Home service.

Because the hours are flexible, this may be for you if your schedule prevents you from attending a class with your dog or your dog is uncontrollable around other dogs and people.

If your dog lunges at other dogs and people while on walks, I can help you.

Privates

If your schedule does not permit you to attend a scheduled class, you may be interested in doing a private where I will work only with you and your dog. Privates usually work better for competition obedience training.

Classes

Classes are limited to ten (10) teams so everyone gets attention. Contact us for information on times and pricing.

K9 Nose Work® Class

Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt. This class focuses on teaching you how to encourage and develop your dog's natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. It's a great class for your dog to have fun, build confidence, burn lots of mental and physical energy and for you to find out just how good your dog's nose is. This sport is especially great for the dog that is uncomfortable around other dogs. Any age dog can participate.

See what people say about our training

Diesel
"My dog Diesel and I have been taking classes with Ramona at California Academy of Dog Behavior since Diesel was 12 weeks old. We started with the Puppy Kindergarten and worked up to the Novice Obedience and the Rally classes and have enjoyed the process and training throughout. Diesel has not always been an easy dog but Ramona has been able to work with both of us and teach us how to work together better as a team and work through his issues. Just this past week we competed in our first AKC Novice Rally competition and were able to earn our first leg towards his Novice Rally title! We couldn't have done it without Ramona's help and encouragement. Thanks Ramona!"

Jean Richardson and Diesel

Brady
"The California Academy of Dog Behavior has been a tremendous help in training our two Labrador Retrievers who have completely opposite personalities. One is lethargic and sometimes fearful while the other is hyperactive and nearly fearless. Both dogs love going to class. Ramona makes classes fun, always finding new ways to challenge the handlers as well as the dogs. We highly recommend the California Academy of Dog Behavior."

Anne with Dutch
"Ramona Audette is a true professional; the needs of the dogs and her clients are her top priorities. Her common sense approach is having the patience to take the time to give her clients the tools to succeed. Her classes exceeded my expectations."

Anne Gundersen,
puppy raiser for Guide Dogs of America

"Ramona is an experienced trainer who shows you practical solutions to problems, takes the time to assist you when you do not understand something, and reminds you to pay attention to your dog. She gives you the skills to develop a training foundation that builds your confidence so you can do anything if you make the commitment to yourself and your dog. Thank you for helping me all these years and more importantly reminding me that training is fun."
